Absurde Forderungen only works when many people judge the same claim. A few simple rules keep that fair - here they are in full.
Voting without an account
You can rate any published entry with "Agree" or "Disagree" without signing in. No account, no email address, no form.
Each device has exactly one vote per entry - and it is final. Unlike signed-in members you cannot take a vote back or flip it. So think for a second before you click.
To recognise your device we set one technical cookie. If your browser blocks cookies for this site we cannot attribute your vote and will not count it - we tell you so directly on the page.
Why a signed-in vote counts ten times more
A vote without an account counts one tenth of a vote from a signed-in member. Ten anonymous votes therefore weigh as much as one signed-in vote. While an entry has anonymous votes only, we show a percentage once those together reach the weight of one signed-in vote.
This is not distrust of you personally. An anonymous vote costs nobody anything: a new device, a cleared cookie, and the next one is ready. Signing up costs a confirmed email address and is much harder to multiply. The weighting simply reflects that difference.
Signing in takes one click: we send you a magic link by email, no password needed. After that your vote counts in full - and you can change or withdraw it at any time.
Sign in nowHow an entry gets published
Submitting requires an account - and no entry appears automatically. Every one goes through the same steps:
- Submit: title, optional explanation and up to five tags. The entry is then "under review" and visible only to you and the moderators.
- Review: a moderator reads every entry by hand. No filter, no AI, no automatic approval.
- Published: the entry is public, appears in Discover and can be rated. From that moment its text is frozen - otherwise the claim would change underneath votes already cast.
- Changes requested: moderation sends the entry back with a reason. You find the note in your profile, revise the entry and submit it again.
- Rejected: the entry is not published. Here too you get a reason and can submit a revised version.
Rejected are entries that do not reproduce a verifiable public statement: pure insults, invented quotes, advertising or personal attacks on private individuals.
How the absurdity score works
The percentage on each entry is the share of agreement among all votes cast - with anonymous votes entering at one tenth. It measures how much readers agree, not how many voted.
For the order of the listings, time is added: a fresh entry with high agreement ranks above an old entry with a similar value. The displayed percentage is untouched by this - only the placement ages.
An entry without votes has no score and is listed as "No votes yet".
Fairness and abuse protection
One vote per device and entry. On top of that we cap how many votes a device and a network connection can cast within a day. We deliberately do not name the exact limits - anyone who knows them can tune right up to them.
Normal reading and voting never comes close to those limits. If a notice does appear, nothing is broken: wait until tomorrow or sign in.
We never recalculate a vote after the fact. If you sign in later, your earlier anonymous votes stay anonymous and are not transferred into your account.
What data this creates
For an anonymous vote we store no name, no email address and no IP address in the clear. All that is stored is an encrypted check value of your device identifier, so the same entry is not rated twice.
For the daily limits we derive short-lived, salted check values from your IP address and a few browser details. They rotate daily, cannot be reversed and are deleted automatically.
